Coenzyme Q10

Author: Temperance                         Date: 14.1.2025

Ubiquinone, also known as coenzyme Q10, plays a key role in the production of cellular energy and acts as a powerful antioxidant. It is a naturally occurring compound found in the human body and commonly used in cosmetics. It supports the formation of collagen and elastin in the skin, helps to regenerate skin cells. It restores elasticity and firmness to the skin and supports its proper function.

Ubiquinone (coenzyme Q10) is an endogenously synthesized fat-soluble antioxidant, which is key to the production of cellular energy, and decreases with age and the influence of external stress factors in human skin. The skin, as the largest human organ, is in direct contact with the environment and is therefore exposed to external stress factors. In the fight against subsequent damage, skin cells are constantly involved in tissue regeneration and repair, processes that require a large amount of energy and a well-regulated cellular metabolism. However, energy production declines with age. After 20-30 years of life, it begins to naturally decrease, after 40 we only have about half of it. As a result, the functions of cells and tissues are disturbed and visible structural changes occur. The result is signs of skin aging, such as the appearance of wrinkles and lines, as well as loss of elasticity. Q10 acts as a radical scavenger and protects lipid membranes, lipoproteins and also DNA from oxidative damage.

Ubiquinone is primarily synthesized by a fermentation process. It is produced by fermentation of specific microorganisms. It is often used in cosmetics for its anti-aging properties, helping to reduce fine lines and wrinkles, promoting skin firmness and improving overall skin texture. As an antioxidant, Q10 helps protect the skin from oxidative stress caused by free radicals, environmental pollutants and UV radiation. Q10's ability to neutralize free radicals can help reduce signs of aging such as fine lines and wrinkles. It also supports the formation of collagen, which contributes to improving the elasticity and firmness of the skin.

Q10 is available in various forms, including powder, usually added to skin care products such as serums, creams, and lotions.
