Skin emulsions...

What are skin emulsions?

Emulsions are among the most widespread and important dispersion systems in cosmetics. An emulsion is a mixture of two immiscible liquids, one of which is dispersed in the other in the form of small microscopic particles with a help of an emulsifier.

The emulsion consists of:
Oil phase – fats, oils, waxes, fatty acids, lipophilic functional substances, biologically active substances and others

Water phase – water, humectants, hydrophilic functional substances, biologically active substances and others

Emulsifier – lipophilic emulsifiers, hydrophilic emulsifiers, or complex so-called combined emulsifiers

The emulsion can be:
Oil in water – is an emulsion that "dries" because it has more of the water phase. In order not to dry out, humectants are used that slow down this process. These include products that have an effect mainly on skin hydration – mostly on combination and oily skin type.

Water in oil - is an emulsion in which water molecules are dispersed in the oil phase. It is so-called a type of non-drying emulsion, because the water phase is protected against evaporation and active substances soluble in water against oxidation. These include oily, nourishing and regenerating emulsions – mostly for dry skin.

Mixed emulsion – is a mixture of both types of o/w and w/o emulsions, they contain hydrophilic and lipophilic emulsifiers – mostly for normal skin type.

How to recognize the type of emulsion?
1. Test: spread the emulsion on the forearm and pour a little water on it. If the water dissolves easily on the skin, it is an oil-in-water type.
In the case of the water-in-oil type, the outer phase is oil. The poured water "does not tolerate" it, the emulsion repels water. Therefore, it takes the shape of small droplets so that their contact is as small as possible.
2. Test: add about a third of a small teaspoon of emulsion to a glass of water and mix. If the emulsion mixes easily with water and forms a milky white haze, it is an oil-in-water type. This emulsion can be diluted with water.
If the emulsion does not mix with water, it is a water-in-oil type.

Emulsions are very popular all over the world and many people like to use them because they are always much larger than creams, they are easy to apply either with a pump or by contactless application from a bottle. If you get used to them, it's hard to stay away from them.
Emulsions are suitable for every skin type, but, as we mentioned, it is necessary to determine which emulsion it is, so it is suitable for your skin type.

So to sum it up, if you have oily, combination skin, or you sweat a lot – we recommend you to reach for lighter forms of emulsion – "oil in water". They are as loaded with active ingredients as creams, which we know very well, so there is no need to worry about nutrition at all.
If you have a dry to very dry skin type, you need to choose a water-in-oil emulsion that is more oily and thus guarantees the right care for the skin.
Normal skin, this one is basically "problem-free", but let's not forget that it is also very important to take good care of it. Here you can also reach for emulsions, which are so-called mixed from both types of emulsions.

Our tips:
Combination and oily skin: Acerola Vital Prism Emulsion, Antioxydant Emulsion
Dry and very dry skin: Senite Golden Cell Emulsion, Platinum Aura Emulsion
Normal skin: Green Tea Emulsion, Black Signature Emulsion
