Propolis - bee porridge

The first mentions of bees can be found as early as 10,000 BC. We know that already in ancient Egypt they knew about the healing effects of bee products and they cared for bees with sacred respect. This is also evidenced by the depiction of the "beekeepers" of the time on the walls of temples and records in ancient papyri. In the 9th century, interest in beekeeping also increased in our country. Initially, tree cavities were used, but over time the first predecessors of today's beehives were born. Beekeepers became respected citizens and had many privileges.Bee products already became part of the medicine of the time during this period, and the effects of bee products are still used today.

Did you know that honey is not the only product of bees? They also produce a compound called propolis. It is a natural ingredient whose medicinal effects have been known for several thousand years and has also gradually been included in "beautifying" products. Bee products are simply TOP and who among us does not already know tea with honey, propolis drops or capsules with bee porridge?

The effects of honey, propolis and bee jelly have become interesting ingredients for the cosmetics industry and are a very popular active ingredient in many skin products.

What exactly is propolis? Let's imagine him!
Propolis is a bee product that in its raw state has a sticky consistency and a dark brown to brown-green color. Its composition is different in every hive, in every region and in every season, and yet they have a lot in common.

The basis of propolis is a mixture of resins from the sap of trees, buds and flowers, pollen and essential oils. Bees process this mixture with the help of beeswax, creating a unique antibacterial, anti-inflammatory substance with antibiotic effects - propolis.

Propolis contains more than 180 different compounds, and it is precisely for many of them that it is so sought after. It has a different composition depending on the environment where the bees were and which plants and trees they had access to, but in general it contains up to 300 different substances. Regardless of the area from which propolis comes, the main components are always polyphenols called flavonoids. These are antioxidants that fight against free radicals, harmful external environment as well as harmful substances in the human body. Flavonoids are commonly found in foods such as fruit, green tea, vegetables and red wine. They also have antioxidant, antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory properties.
Thanks to these properties, they are used to treat inflammatory processes on the skin.

How does propolis work and what type of skin is it suitable for?
Propolis is often part of acne care.
It mitigates its consequences, heals acne scars, softens skin texture and balances pigmentation, which can also appear during and after acne conditions. It accelerates the healing process of various superficial skin infections. It accelerates cell metabolism and thus the regeneration of damaged skin tissue. Thanks to its antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties, it is effective not only in getting rid of acne, pimples or boils, but also acts as a prevention of their occurrence.

Another benefit is that propolis inhibits the growth of a wide range of bacteria. It has a beneficial effect in the treatment of fungal diseases.

It speeds up healing and reduces inflammation. Propolis creates a closed and sterile environment that allows skin repair and renewal. By reducing inflammation, it significantly complements the treatment of eczema and psoriasis.

With its already mentioned antioxidant properties, it protects the skin from damage caused by UV radiation, prevents signs of aging due to unwanted oxidation processes in the skin and photo-damage.

It acts against wrinkles and reduces their appearance. It supports the synthesis of collagen in the tissues and thus restores the intercellular mass of the skin. Thanks to this, the firmness and elasticity of the skin is improved.

It increases the effect of vitamins, especially vitamin C, which is very popular in cosmetics.
As we have already mentioned several times, propolis contains antioxidants that are highly effective and protect against free radicals and thereby prolong the effectiveness of vitamin C. Therefore, it is recommended to supplement propolis care with preparations with vitamin C.

Propolis has become an important ingredient in products aimed at softening the skin, it leaves the skin soft, hydrated and strengthened. It gives brightness and freshness to tired skin. With its content of vitamins, minerals, flavonoids and other important active substances, it supports the overall health of the skin and strengthens the function of the skin film.

We'll just add a little info about another component that you probably know well.
An important component of bee products is the so-called bee porridge. It was already used for beautification in ancient Egypt and Rome. Porridge is a synonym for perfect nutrition full of vitamins, minerals and amino acids. With the content of bio-active substances such as peptides, flavonoids, fatty acids and its overall nutritional value, it affects the quality of the skin, its regeneration processes and also supports the formation of collagen. It has an anti-inflammatory effect, protects the skin from the negative effects of UV radiation, and maintains its clean and youthful appearance. Beeswax is intensively moisturizing, the high content of lipids maintains the plumpness and elasticity of the skin, softens wrinkles. It successfully alleviates inflammatory manifestations, redness and improves the condition of dermatitis. With its ability to regulate sebum production, it is suitable for all skin types, including oily skin.

Allergy sufferers - something to warn you about.
Propolis is a mixture produced by bees to protect the hive from microbes and the external environment. As with any other skin care ingredient, it is possible to have an allergic reaction to propolis. If you have an allergy or intolerance to honey or bee stings, it is quite likely that you may also have reactivity to products containing propolis.

In our experience, reactions to propolis are relatively rare. However, dermatologists recommend doing a test on the inside of your wrist before adding a propolis-containing product to your skin care routine. If it turns red - you cannot use the products. This is really only necessary if you know about your intolerance/adverse reaction to honey or bee stings.
