Snail slime in cosmetics: These 9 facts will blow your mind!

Cosmetic products with snail slime are already becoming popular in our region as well.
We have already introduced its effects in one of our previous blogs. If you haven't seen it yet, read about an ingredient that's really worth it. Today we will talk more about interesting facts from the world of small, slow, but miraculous snails, which brought mucin, loved by celebrities, into the world of cosmetics.

1. Snail slime is literally loaded with nutrients such as hyaluronic acid, glycoprotein or peptides, which are commonly used in cosmetic products and are proven to be beneficial for our skin. These ingredients help to protect our skin from damage, infection, dryness or harmful UV radiation.
2. Snail slime contains 91-98% water. The mucus is then filtered several times to increase its concentration and ensure its purity. Some products claim to contain up to 97% slug slime filtrate. However, when looking for the right product, you should focus more on the consistency and quality of the snail slime.
3. Snail slime is, of course, collected humanely. In particular, the species considered to be an agricultural pest is used for this purpose. Only snail secretions that are just “released” by them are collected. It is then processed and used in cosmetic products.
4. Mucin is known for its properties, which are a miracle in the fight against aging. It helps to stimulate collagen and elastin production, protects the skin from free radicals, soothes it, repairs damaged tissues and restores hydration. It can be used to improve the condition of dry skin, wrinkles and stretch marks, acne or rosacea. It also has a positive effect on pigment spots, skin after burns or small scars.
5. Snail slime is widely used in Korean cosmetic products, such as serums, face masks, moisturizers and whitening creams. However, mucin-containing products are not as sticky and greasy as you might think. Most of them have a neutral appearance, nice smell and a very pleasant structure.
6. In Asian countries, especially Japan and Korea, the so-called "Snail spa" are extremely popular. During the spa procedure, live snails are placed on the client's face, where the expert beauty workers let them work for a few minutes. After this treatment, the slime is subsequently massaged into the skin. Today, these procedures are becoming more and more popular and used. Their popularity is also growing in Hollywood, for example.
7. Due to its composition, snail slime is known for its versatile effects. It contains hyaluronic acid, which slows down the aging process. It has the ability to smooth the skin, it has a positive effect on deep wrinkles. Due to its characteristics, it is also very popular with women of older age, thus the products are highly recommended for them. However, we must not forget the younger women as well. In case of more problematic skin, it is very appropriate to use products with snail slime on a regular basis.
8. The use of snail slime on the skin dates back to ancient Greece, where the famous physician Hippocrates allegedly prescribed snail slime and sour milk to treat inflammation. Snails began to appear in cosmetics, especially after Chilean farmers who handled snails noticed that the skin on their hands was visibly smoother and softer.
9. If you have sensitive skin, the application of snail slime is recommended as well. It helps with irritated skin and redness. It also partially eliminates the unpleasant feeling of dryness and itching. Mucin is also used in products to treat rosacea and to relieve the symptoms of some skin problems.
And what else to add at the end? There is only one thing left: If you yet have to try products with snail slime, just go for it! And if you use them already, definitely continue to do so. Wanted effect will definitely come :-)
